Good Practice Guidance in Skills Check and Initial Assessment

In order to provide further support to users of all the revised trial versions of the tools, the “Good Practice Guidelines in Skills Check and Initial Assessment” has been developed.

The booklet contains information about the whole skills check (previously referred to as ‘screening’) and initial assessment process, together with advice about best practice drawing on practitioner experience.

The Learning Journey

This document is a simple guide to the various stages of the learning journey. It illustrates each of the stages, using the DfES definitions, and provides narrative explanation.
